Based on frames from the stop motion animation you will create an annotated storyboard that will diagram the key moments within the animation and the transitional stitches that hold the animation together. You will interpret the group animations as a system, attempting to elucidate the process of change. Each group will exchange animations and scripts in order to create a reverse storyboard, individuals in the east/west group will analyze the north/south group’s work and vice versa.

Typically storyboarding is used to plan or conceptualize a film or animation, in this instance we will use the storyboard as an analytical tool. The animation and script will be examined in order to determine the focus of the storyboard and reference points. Each student will need to develop a strategy to layout the key moments of the animation, this will involve extracting approximately 1/10th of the current animation (approximately 30 frames). Using lines and planes the frames (in-betweens) will be analyzed and diagrammed to illustrate the process of change with a notational scoring. The final product will be a series of 20-30 small diagrams and/or a single running diagram that will accompany the frames from the animation. The diagrams can explore the view that is composed in the animation or may take on another form that references the view.
